HAPPY NEW YEAR: Kyle Schmid WINS, yet again!

HAPPY NEW YEAR once again to ALL my 'Fang'tastic followers, be you following here on the blog, on Twitter, FaceBook, Myspace, LiveJournal or even on Bloggers or on the Playlist!

Well it seems like it was just yesterday (albeit a year ago) that we were announcing Kyle Schmid's win in the 1st ever annual 'Sexiest Man in the Vampire realm' poll done by Vampire Examiner Raelynn Garcia. Well won't ya know it, he has done it again. 

This year, Kyle won with a whopping 107,325 votes.

Kyle's dedicated fans came out one again, proving to be quite the force to be reckoned with, and helped crown Kyle, who played 1st Duke of Richmond and Somerset Prince Henry Fitzroy, turned vampire in tv's Blood Ties, King of the sexiest men in the vampire realm.

Kyle even won 'fangs' down over his upcoming Three Inches co-star and fellow, former vampire  James Marsters ( aka 'Spike' on Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

Kyle's portrayal of Henry Fitzroy (bastard son of King Henry VIII of Tudor) in Blood Ties, based on the Blood Books by Canadian author Tanya Huff, definitely still resonates within the hearts and minds of his fans. And if these latest results prove anything, his portrayal of Henry, and Kyle himself, will be in their hearts and minds, for a long time to come.

It should also be noted, that Kyle's portrayal of vampire Henry, also won, yet again for the second year in a row, Vampire Wire's Ultimate Hawtest Vampire Contest.

So what's next for Kyle?

I am holding hope (and I know I'm not the only one) towards the World War I drama Four Saints getting off the ground.

Therein Kyle is set to star along side another sexy man, his fellow Canadian, Kris Holden-Ried (formerly William Compton on The Tudors), who currently stars as were/shifter fae, Dyson on the new hit Canadian tv series Lost Girl ... I, for one, would just love to see Kyle do, say an extended guest stint on Lost Girl (and I know I'm not the only one of his fans liking this idea as well ;) but that's for another fae, I mean, day... (Read my initial reaction to Lost Girl> here...

And, in the meantime, for a second year in a row...

Succub...? Well, hello 'Lost Girl' : A Series Debut Review.

So last Sunday night (Sept. 12th), I passed on watching the season 3 finale of True Blood!

Why?

Because there is this new Canadian show I had been reading/seeing/hearing some buzz about and I wanted to tune in to its series debut episode. The show in question was/is Showcase's Lost Girl which some of you may remember I'd mentioned about three posts ago?

I felt it was a "not to be missed" debut, and besides, I knew I could see the True Blood season 3 finale in a repeat episode (which, btw, now that I've seen it, I was not very impressed with the ending of. It was basically a non-ending. But I digress...)

Well anyway, I'm very glad that I had decided to catch the series premiere / pilot episode of Lost Girl, 'cause it was pretty damn good, in my opinion (I even went to work the next day and recommended it to a few of my genre loving colleagues).

And according to the statistics on TV, eh?, over 400,000 in Canada tuned in to its premiere, and I can count myself among them.

I'm generally a genre loving fan, esp. of most things Horror-Fantasy, Sci-fi and Supernatural. I consider myself as a die-hard, albeit not overly hardcore (No tats of my fave characters. No RPGing or LARPing) and I know what I like. 
And when I like something I talk about it (off and/or on line> as I recently did about this self same show, with sisters Suzie and Shannon from Hexed: Sisterhood of the Supernatural on their FaceBook Page.) and I'm definitely liking the potential I'm seeing in Lost Girl. (Note: Suzie and Shannon also discuss Lost Girl beginning on section 1:25:45 of their recent podcast.)

Season 1 episode 1 titled "It's a Fae, Fae, Fae, Fae World" had a nice balance of action, drama, intrigue and story introduction and development; with some nice, sassy dialogue and witty, memorable one liners (and we all know how much of a sucker I am for witty dialogue. Can you say Blood Ties anyone? :) 

"It's like the 4th of July in my mouth!" - as said by Bo after she engages in a kiss with Dyson... and Mais Oui! I tell ya, that was indeed some HOT kiss between Bo (Anna Silk) and Dyson (Kris Holden-Reid).
I was like "Wow!" First episode and already some fierce tonsil hockey!? LoL! (albeit she was intentionally sucking some of the lifeforce out of him, as per his offering, but that just added to the "Wow!" "Hot!" factor).

I have to say here that I'm already liking the chemistry between Bo & Dyson. That scene where they both made eye contact while passing each other on the street, was intense and truly believable. And already we can see that sort of back/forth, love/hate dynamic between them (kinda like a Lois and Clark... Bo's sass and fiesty personality certainly reminds me of Erica Durance's Lois Lane on Smallville, but Dyson seems to be more than a "goody gumshoe" even for a "Light" Fae.)

And speaking (still) of Dyson (insert Soni's usual segue loving self here :) ... I couldn't not mention some cool coincidences I came upon while doing my research, regarding actor Kris Holden-Reid (who somewhat resembles another "Chris", i.e. Martin of ColdPlay) and Lost Girl in general. 

Apart from the fact that Holden-Reid had attended my alma mater University here in Montreal some time back, he also played "William Compton" on The Tudors. Of course "William Compton" is also the proper name of vampire Bill Compton on HBO's True Blood. Furthermore, The Tudors, revolves around the life of King Henry VIII. King Henry VIII was the father of Henry Fitzroy (can you see where I'm going? :) Of course, the historical persona of Henry Fitzroy was used by Canadian author Tanya Huff as a vampire in her Blood Books, which were used as the basis for the tv series Blood Ties, which was created by none other than Peter Mohan who is also one of the executive producers of Lost Girl... And/End segue scene :)


Ultimately, from what I can see, the premiere episode of Lost Girl has setup, what could no doubt be an intriguing storyline over the course of the season. As a viewer, my mind is already wondering with loads of questions, esp. as with regards to 'Bo', a succubus living among humans (although initially, she didn't know what she was ). 

Where did she come from? Who is she really? How is it that Fae live among humans? What other kinds of fae are there? How extremely do the "Light" Fae differ from the "Dark"? And why must Bo choose a side? What is Trick (as played by Rick Howland)'s secret and why is he having fellow fae Dyson observe her? And of course, how far will Bo go to find out "where or from whom she came"?

Cinematographically, I'm also liking the warm tones and deep hues in some of the scenes (my photographers' eye generally "lights" upon things like that.)

So now, as I have been pleasantly "sucked in" and "seduced" by the potential in the first episode. Here's hoping it will continue to improve. I will certainly be tuning in again tomorrow and every Sunday at 9pm on Showcase to find, Lost Girl!

Tanya Huff's vampire Henry Fitzroy may get re-newed (undead) life?

The news was broken earlier today by The Hollywood Reporter (well the THR news was actually broken to the rest of us first, by an alert Kyle Schmid fan, MaggieMay, on/via Kyle Schmid Central on Kyle's Korner), that Canadian author Tanya Huff's Smoke Books  may become the basis for the potential development of a new vampire series for the small screen, to be done by Fremantle Corp and Kaleidoscope Entertainment (the same company that gave us our beloved Blood Ties.) - In fact, the news was so fast breaking that even the author herself was surprised, as she tweeted here and here.

There was also this bit of news on the same topic, to which Mrs. Huff corrected  in her 2nd tweet above as per the correct location (i.e. not LA, but Vancouver).

Nevertheless, this news, as it broke today was met with tons of virtual applause by fans at the possibility - ( well once all goes well and they get the financing for this project ) - that the beloved and debonair vampire Henry Fitzroy may get to rise from his death like sleep, and once again grace our screens.

Of course added to this, is the further hope that if indeed this project comes to pass, that the man himself, Kyle Schmid, who IS the embodiment of said vampire, would indeed get to / choose to reprise his role as the vampire Henry Fitzroy. 

I mean afterall, for anyone who is a fan of Blood Ties you all KNOW that Kyle Schmid MAKES Henry Fitzroy who and what he is: "I am not to be taken lightly. Do not forget who and what I am." - Henry Fitzroy, Blood Ties

In the end (or maybe, in this case, hopefully, fingers & fangs crossed  - the beginning, again?) when all is said and done, regardless of anything else, such as any changes/differences that the Smoke and Mirrors (as the series would be called if green lit) may take on, the virtual voices are unanimous in who should be vampire Henry Fitzroy ( and as the expression goes Fifty Million Frenchmen can't be wrong, n'est pas!?)

So as much as my writers' mind wanders off and wonders on speculations of what has yet to come to pass, it is with Patience and Prayers that we fans will wait, as I tweeted back to Mrs. Huff, "with fingers crossed and bated breath".

But still... here's looking at you, Henry ;o)

Bite Bits: Gabrielle Faust, Tanya Huff, Anne Rice & ... Kyle Schmid?

Gabrielle Faust (who can also be found on Twitter by the same name, re: Gabrielle Faust ), author of the Eternal Vigilance book series, is in the process of adapting a script, with acclaimed indie director Anthony Brownrigg, for the first novel in EV series. And a petition has been started to collect signatures to "show...enthusiasm for this creative project and prove to possible movie studio executives that there is a demand for this film to be made". Here is a link to the petition: Help Make Eternal Vigilance into a movie! 

The goal is to collect 500,000 siggy's by the end of 2010. And I for one, am in hope that they will be able to achieve this goal (hence why I've decided to dedicate a blog post about it).

As an avid, die hard vampire fan(g) girl, I would be lying (to myself and you) if I said that I didn't want to see more vamp fare out there.

I most certainly would. 

But that doesn't mean that just for the sake of making vampire film (or Tv series), it should be: come what may, or anything goes, be it good or bad!

Not at all!

But when something merits being explored, when it has the "chops" (pardon the pun), to potentially become something great (or even greater than it is), then one can only hope it be given the chance to do so.

I mean, when you think of it, there have been some (books-to-film) which have been given the chance to become more than what they are, but have left some of us, (of the more logic mind in my opinion), thinking; "Really? ... but it wasn't all that good!" ( insert obvious Twilight reference here)...

And just in case there is wonder as to what makes me qualified to critique what merits a good or bad piece of literature or film - well I cut my teeth on Dracula and Anne Rice novels at the early age of 12 and 13. Not to mention, at an even earlier age (6? 7?) on some classic films of varying genres, from Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles to silent films, musicals and foreign language...

But I digress!

So it's with a love for things that go "bite in the night" that I'm hoping and supporting that this book-to-film, gets to see the light of ... a studio set!

And yes, Gabrielle just happens to be a "HUGE" fan of actor Kyle Schmid (the embodiment of vampire Henry Fitzroy from tv's Blood Ties)... But that's beside the point!

And speaking of authors, the (former?) vampire queen B herself, Mrs. Anne Rice, has, for want of a better term, "taken notice" of actor Kyle Schmid (it all comes back to him in this blogpost doesn't it? LoL!).

Albeit it was mainly to comment on the visually aesthetic appeal of the young actor - as fans posted photos in response to her (Rice's) FaceBook post that day regarding, one Matt Bomer of the tv show White Collar . 

Rice (referring to Bomer) said (and I quote): "I just love Matt Bomer. It's so difficult to determine what makes beauty; poise, voice, demeanor, all this is part of the mystery along with killer blue eyes and gorgeous dark hair, and gorgeous facial bone structure."

To which a fan of hers (and Kyle's I presume) replied: "Hi Anne, that description of Mr. Bomer (re: beauty; poise, voice, demeanor, ... killer blue eyes and gorgeous dark hair, and gorgeous facial bone structure) is also closely reminiscent of another actor (albeit younger than the aforementioned). This is actor Kyle Schmid!"

The pic posted by said fan must have caught the authors eye, for she then took the time to comment on it. You can see her comment here on her FaceBook page!

So who knows, reliable sources tell me (i.e. someone who had emailed her and received a response) that although she had "never heard of Blood Ties", she will "check it out when she can."

So in this world of "never knows", we may just yet hear her comment on more than his "aesthetic appeal", but his damn fine acting chops as well! ;o)

Love Cures Cancer (or a former Vampires Valentine request)

So this post is mainly in promo of a cause near and dear to the heart of one human who used to play a vampire (and with any hope and luck will one day play a vampire again :o).  

Kyle Schmid ( the embodiment of vampire Henry Fitzoy) and one of the founders of  the Love Cures Cancer charity made this announcement, earlier this week via his official FaceBook page :

Death Becomes HIM (and Poem featured)

Well, as it was announced yesterday, not even 24hrs ago as yet, that Sam Worthington is in talks to play Dracula in a film titled Dracula Year Zero.

This adds to the already growing number of actors who are associated with vampire or vampire related films, including Johnny Depp set to play Barnabas Collins in a Dark Shadows remake and Brad Pitt set to produce Vlad.

Soon, before you know it, everyone in Hollywood will have been "Vamped".

So it's with that fang-tastic idea in mind that I am posing the question to you my dear readers: Which actor (or actress if you will) would you like to see play a vampire, be it again or for the first time, in Tv or film?

And continuing in the vein of things, My poem Beautiful/ Deadly is featured today for Writer's Wednesdays on author Nicole Hadaway's blog All things Smart and Scary.

Author Nicole Hadaway guest post w/ Contest: "Why I Love Henry Fitzroy".

Today VampirePhile welcomes and has the pleasure of hosting author Nicole Hadaway as guest, along with a contest (from Nicole).

Nicole is the author of Release, which recently got four fangs via Fang-tastic Books blog review. And today, Nicole's post relates to one of the subjects which (to quote Nicole) was: " one of the the catalysts that spurred me on to write my own vampire novel."

Of course, Nicole was referring to one of her/my/our favourite vampire Tv shows: Blood Ties, which is still missed to this day by many (if not all) fans of the series.

So it is in that vein, (pardon the obvious pun), in which she writes today, one of the quintessential fave vampires of our time - as perfectly embodied by Kyle Schmid - none other, than, Henry Fitzroy.

Why I Love Henry Fitzroy

I lived in Europe for a year and therefore missed out on an entire season of American television. (This wasn’t always a bad thing ;-), but I did miss out on Moonlight. However, our cable system was wise enough to show Blood Ties, and that was when I fell in love.

I didn’t really read paranormal mysteries, preferring instead the more human kind, like Agatha Christie, P.D. James and Ruth Rendell. Yet I always enjoyed watching vampires on TV or in the movies – Fright Night, The Lost Boys, Angel and Buffy are among my faves, and my two all-time favorite television shows, Charmed and Xena:Warrior Princess certainly don’t skimp on the paranormal fantasy!

Now look, I’m a little old here – I actually saw The Lost Boys in the movie theater when it played back in 1987! I also saw Fright Night the year before, and the vampire in that movie was everything I thought a vampire should be: smooth, suave, handsome, cultured, well-mannered and confident.

Very much like Henry Fitzroy. I was so happy to see Henry as a well-mannered, cultured vampire who had a conscience but didn’t overdo it – he still played with his food, and made no apologies about preferring female humans (like -- where can I sign up to be on his dinner guest list? ;-). He didn’t abuse his feeding, though, and he was a great mix of a nice bad-boy.

Plus, Kyle Schmid did an amazing, just awesomely wonderful job as Henry. He is a really great actor and should really be in more movies. 

I know Soni is a member of Kyle Schmid Central so I can confess here that I rented and watched Joy Ride 2 and The Thaw just to see Kyle!
In recent years I’ve been a fan of historical fiction, so I really liked the idea that Henry was tied to the actual illegitimate son of Henry VIII, who supposedly died of tuberculosis. Very, very clever of Tanya Huff to have taken the tuberculosis symptoms (paleness, tiredness, shortness of breath and death) and put a vampiric spin on them!

After Blood Ties was mercilessly canceled, I had to get my Henry fix by reading the books (though admittedly I only read two of the Blood Series but all three of the Smoke Series which are really good and I highly recommend them). The books gave more details about Henry’s history, which got me thinking about my own vampire, Miranda.

Miranda had been in my mind for nearly 20 years at that point, but I never could come up with an original story for her. Not until I started thinking about her own history, and where she was during important historical events such as World War II. The more I thought about her during that time period, well, that was how Release was born.

So that’s why I love Henry: because he’s a great incarnation of the cultured, civilized vampire who’s got a bit of a bad-boy edge. Thinking about his own history was one of the catalysts that spurred me on to write my own vampire story, and I hope he would approve of Miranda as much as she admires him ;-)

2010, the Year of the Vampire(s) once again!?

Well the year has only been 8 days started and already the Vampires have risen from their coffins and sunk their fangs into the fans again.

Starting the year off with a BITE! 

Fans of Kyle Schmid (a.k.a vampire Henry Fitzroy on Blood Ties) helped him take home a win as "Sexiest man in the Vampire realm" and, as is the effect most vampires have, the article author Raelynn Coombs, soon found herself enthralled.

Then it was announced this week that Blood Ties will be re-released in the Spring (April 6th) with the complete series on DVD and Blu-ray.

Then, just 2 days ago, at the People's Choice Awards (which, on that night, could have been renamed to The Vampire Choice Awards), the "undead" lived again, with Twilight Saga: New Moon, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries all taking home awards.


In fact, even several "general" winners and nominees, still in some way, could be linked back to "Vampire".

• Alyson Hannigan who won best Tv Comedy Actress, was former witch Willow, on Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
  
  
• Keifer Sutherland, nominated for 24, was vampire David on The Lost Boys.
  
  
• Katherine Heigl, who won best Tv Drama Actress, has starred in The Ugly Truth, with Gerard Butler, who was of course Dracula in Dracula 2000.
  
  
• Johnny Depp, was chosen Fave Movie Actor of the decade, and he will soon play vampire Barnabas Collins in the 3 film adaptation, based on the original tv series, Dark Shadows.
  
  
• Sandra Bullock, who won for Best Movie Actress, starred in Speed with Keanu Reeves, who starred as Jonathan Harker in Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula .
  
  

Soon, it'll no longer be "Six degrees of Kevin Bacon", but rather, "Six degrees of Vampire separation". That  is to say, someone who acted as or has acted with someone, who was, a vampire. Talk about your Blood Ties.

As well, today (Jan 8th, 2010) saw the opening the vampire horror/thriller Daybreakers , starring Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe (this will be DaFoe's third time as one of the "living dead", with Shadow of the Vampire   and The Vampire's Assistant, being the others).

And there's much more fanged fare on the fore, as seen on author Catherine Karp's Upcoming Vampire Movies & Series: 2010 Edition

In about two weeks are the Golden Globe awards (Sun. Jan 17th), and there's no doubt, that a Vampire related some one/thing (movie, tv, person etc) may win.

Then on Jan. 21st, we have the winter return of The Vampire Diaries.


By mid-June Season 3 of True Blood returns on HBO. (Rumor has it as set for Sunday June 13th).


And by June 30th, Twilight Saga: Eclipse, is set to take (yet another) bite out of the boxoffice.

Hell, even some radio stations are going in for the kill. This sunday, 9am-12pm eastern, Montreal's own CJAD 800 am Trivia Show will run along a vampire theme.

So would this year see "all things vampires" sucking the blood from the competition?
 
Only time will tell!

Update: Blood Ties still has devoted fan base!

It was just about 7 days ago when  The Memphis Examiner vote poll   was discovered, but, to the chagrin of many Blood Ties fans, there was no nomination of Kyle Schmid, who played the devilishly, delectable vampire Henry Fitzroy on said show.

That was soon rectified however. Kyle was nominated only two days before the polls closed and to the surprise of many, including the article writer herself, RaeLynn Coombs, the sexiest man in the vampire realm, fave du jour vampire, was crowned.

Kyle Schmid won the poll, over of all people, Robert Pattinson!

HAPPY NEW YEAR: Kyle Schmid WINS Sexiest man in Vampire Realm!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, 2010 (or 20 Zen) my Fang-tastic Followers!

Well Henry Fitzroy Fans, yup you've read it right (re: title)!

Updating on that vote poll I told about only 4 days ago, being done by The Memphis Vampire Examiner, it was a close race to the sunset, but ultimately Kyle Schmid's fans rallied en mass, and in only two days, staked a win over Twilight's Robert Pattinson.

Blood Ties, Vampire Henry Fitzroy himself, a.k.a Kyle Schmid has won "fangs" down as the Sexiest Man in the Vampire Realm!

Kyle won with 2,706 votes (beating R. Pat's 2,571).

So Kyle Schmid has been nominated as one of the sexiest men in the Vampire realm by the Memphis Examiner.

Wishing all a Bloody good Holiday!... And some bite bits.

That other blood red (and green) holiday is now upon us, the only other time where we see as much red as on Valentines day or blood from ones' veins.


So I'd like to take this time to give a warm, red blooded Thank You and wish Happy Holidays, to all my Vamp-Boy and Fang-Girl followers - the newly Turned and Ancient alike (on here and those also following on Twitter and FaceBook, who stop by, occasionally, to read what I have to write :o).

8) Today, over at the Eternal Vigilance, Gabrielle Faust, has posted a new clip from the upcoming DayBreakers, set for release in January 2010.


9) I've been hearing alot of buzz on this fairly new (August 31) book release called Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. Some are touting it as the next big thing after Twilight. Only this time, it's with Angels. So who knows, soon Angels may be the new Vampires?

10) And speaking of vampires and angels, just a few minutes ago, Anne Rice announced via her official Anne Rice facebook page, about her official Anne Rice Ning page, she has recently created.

Lestat's mom, loves to keep connected with her fan(g)s...Not only does she have her official Anne Rice website, but there is also an official Anne Rice Twitter Stream and an official Anne Rice YouTube station....

Well I for one, I'm glad she likes keeping connected... here's hoping she may give some consideration to the suggestions of (our beloved) Kyle Schmid for the role of (her beloved) Lestat!?
