VP: Hello Roxanne, for those reading who may not yet know about you, tell us a bit about yourself: such as how you got started, how long you've been writing?
RR: I have been writing erotica and erotic romance since 2005. I started out writing for Tit-elation.com and Sex-Kitten.net. Since then I've been published around the web, in several magazines, print anthologies and in eBooks.
VP: What do you find attractive about the world of the Paranormal?
RR: Everything. :-) The connection to the unknown, the ability to bend things to your will, the sexy supernatural creatures...
VP: You have described Eternal Desire as: "a vampire story with erotic elements".
Why do you think eroticism and vampires go hand in hand (or in this case "fang in neck")?
RR: In the 19th century when vampire literature like Carmilla and Dracula became popular the vampire was used as an erotic substitute during a time when sexuality was taboo.
Today the vampire still holds that sexual connection- the fear of the unknown, the eroticism and intimacy involved with stalking your prey, devouring someone, the exchange of bodily fluids (blood), it is all so intimate and can be used as metaphor for any number of sexual situations.
Plus there's just something incredibly sexy about a creature with supernatural powers, extreme good looks, and bedroom skills that can go way beyond what any human is capable of.
VP: I read in your interview on AuthorsbyAuthors : “A vampire show I truly miss is Blood Ties".
As this VampirePhile blog was started mainly due to that show (well beloved and still missed by many), I have to ask, what was it about Blood Ties that appealed to you?
RR: I loved so much about Blood Ties, even more so after reading the books by Tanya Huff that the series was based on. First of all I didn't find the show to be cheesy or cliched like so many vampire shows. Henry is an amazing vampire, secure with himself and not obsessed about being a "monster", he accepted himself and wasn't all "boo hoo I'm not human anymore and no one can love me because I am a monster". No he was strong and so confident and Kyle Schmid played Henry perfectly.
Then there was Vicki, one of the strongest and most stubborn heroines ever. You have to love her. Then I was hoping to see more of the love triangle between her, Henry and Celluci like in the books but the show was cut off.
VP: With the current “undead” trend in film and Tv being ever so popular with True Blood, Twilight, Vampire Diaries etc – seems like the fans want more fangs! What are some vampiric works you’d like to see adapted for the big or small screen? And, if you haven’t already, would you try your hand at penning a script?
RR: I don't know much about scripts but perhaps someday I'll give it a go, who knows anything is possible. As far as books to screen...hmm...I've heard LKH's Anita Blake is going to be on television, whether it is going to be a series or just a movie I'm not sure. I am interested in seeing that come to life. Another series that would be great would be Kim Harrison's The Hollows series. I would love to see Rachel Morgan brought to life on screen.
b) “Does she have any advice for young aspiring writers like me?”
VP: And finally Roxanne, I guess we could mostly agree (especially for those of us who love them), that vampires are perhaps the more desirable of the paranormal creatures. Nevertheless, if you could invent / create a new kind of supernatural creature to add to the mix, what would it be and why?
